Eight Paterson firefighters were injured, three seriously, in a collision between two fire engines Saturday evening.

The trucks were responding to a multi-alarm house fire when they collided. Upon impact, one struck a tree while the other hit the Golden Mango grocery store.

A police officer observed the crash, and reported it.

"This is something that rarely happens," Paterson Mayor Andrew Sayegh told News 12.

The crash, that occurred about a block from the fire, remains under investigation.
